14th I-PAL International Speech Contest

Do you want to take part to the 14th I-PAL International Speech Contest in Japanese?

June 28th (Sat.), 2003 from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Location

I-PAL Kagawa, Conference Hall 3rd Floor

Eligibility

Any foreign resident living in Kagawa. A maximum of 10 persons will be selected.(Previous winners are ineligible)

Subject of the speech

If it is within the guidelines of the contest, the topic should be liberal on views on Kagawa and/or Japan.

Speech length

5-7 minutes. There will be a Q&A session with the jury after the speech concerning the chosen subject.

Prizes

The top winner will receive 50,000 yen; the other three winners will receive 30,000 yen each.All other participants will receive a 5,000 yen prize.

Objectives of the speech contest: This speech contest is an opportunity for foreign residents of Kagawa to express their views on Kagawa and/or Japan, in Japanese. Moreover, it will be useful to promote internationalization among Kagawa residents and will enable them to deepen their understanding of other cultures by listening to foreign residents' frank opinions.

Judging criteria: The adequacy of the chosen subject, the language proficiency, the presentation during the speech (demeanor, mien...), the comprehension of the chosen subject (assessed by the Q&A session after the speech.)

Application: Send or bring to I-PAL the completed application form, a copy of the manuscript of the speech and a recording on tape of the speech (please do not forget to state your name, country of origin and the title of the speech itself.) A preliminary selection will be made through the hearing of the tapes. The participants will receive notification of their selection by June the 6th.
